FAQ

Q: What does the 9 Strap do (baseball/softball)?

A: In addition to injury prevention/mitigation (such as torn labrum and catchers getting hit on the backswing), here are some of the additional benefits of 9 Strap Technology:

- Locks hands together, in place, preventing hitters from getting handsy, rolling over

- Immediately increases bat speed

- Prevents casting

- Keeps hands inside the ball

- Prevents leaking

- Prevents barrel dumping

- Helps keep posture, allowing hitter to rotate efficiently and stay connected when rotating

- Engages back side without leaking the front shoulder / front side because hands are together and arms and legs are now in sync on contact

Q: What does the 9 Strap do (golf)?

A: While gripping the club, the 9 Strap locks both hands together, adding more control and power to your swing. Because the club head is locked in place, it has been shown to immediately eliminate or reduce slicing. Because the hands are cinched together, creating a tighter swing radius, the added whip and club speed has shown to add upwards of 15% greater distance.

Q: What does the 9 Strap do (pickleball)?

A: The 9 Strap for pickleball is the first and only two-handed backhand training tool. While securely locking the hands in place, it's been shown to have added much more control and power to the two-handed backhand.

Q: Is the 9 Strap game legal in baseball/softball?

A: Thousands of 9 Straps are currently being used in-game on a daily basis. The 9 Strap is not only a great training tool, but is perfect for in-game use. Because the hands are cinched together during the swing, yet free to separate once the bat is dropped, the 9 Strap does not in any way prohibit the ballplayer from performing the normal baseball and softball activities. First and foremost, the 9 Strap is an injury prevention tool (lead shoulder, elbow, and wrist for hitter, and catcher getting hit on the backswing), and has been known to be "game ready".

In March of 2025, we were notified by NFHS that the 9 Strap was not allowed for in-game use. However, after performing the peer reviewed safety study and presenting the information to the Chair and Rules Committee in June of that same year, the committee immediately approved the 9 Strap and determined that it is in fact compliant for use in high school varsity competition.

Roy Hobbs Baseball has also officially approved 9 Strap Technology for in-game use.

We have heard on occasion from 3rd party sources (including certain Google and AI searches) that 9 Strap Technology isn't allowed in some leagues. However, even after several attempts to receive any sort of official documentation from these leagues, we have been unsuccessful. Some are interpreting Little League's latest announcement regarding "thumb guards" as a sign that the 9 Strap is not allowed. But again, we haven't seen anything official from any other leagues (even after several attempts to make contact via phone, email etc. for several months), and therefore cannot conform either way.

Being that 9 Strap Technology has proven through 3rd party safety studies and peer reviewed data to immediately protect players and reduce the risk of single-arm swing injuries and backswing accidents, one would think that it is not only allowed in competitive play, but also encouraged in all leagues of every age and skill level. Legal professionals argue that banning or disallowing a product that has proven to keep ballplayers safe can put that particular league in a position of legal trouble and negligence.

We encourage everyone to forward any official documentation banning 9 Strap Technology to us at contact@9strap.com so that we can address the issue immediately.

Q: How do I know which model to purchase?

A: The Full Hide has a strap that is a tad thicker and stiffer. The Lite model is a little thinner and is therefore less noticeable when gripping the bat. The Full Hide is great for beginners, or people who might be less experienced/coordinated with their hands as the strap is not able to fold or bend as easily as the Lite or Pro models. Once the hitter becomes more experienced and gets used to the 9 Strap, they will want move on to the Lite or Pro model.

Younger players will most likely not notice the difference in thickness as it is very subtle.

*Side note: The Pro model, golf models, and pickleball models do not have the small Velcro piece to hold the strap out of the way when not in use.

Q: Can one strap be used for both sports or is there a difference in the two?

A: You certainly could, but it will not be as effective. Some of the differences between the multiple sports products are... The golf 9 Strap is narrower to better accommodate the smaller handle (compared to a bat or paddle). The golf and pickleball 9 Strap have a small piece of leather on the inside of the loop to better protect the skin/hand since gloves are typically not worn on the non-dominant hand. The baseball/softball and golf 9 Straps have one piece of leather since it will line up roughly in the same direction of the bat and club handle, while the pickleball 9 Strap has a break in the leather as to accommodate the different angles of the two-hand backhand grip.

Q: Is the 9 Strap for golf approved in competition?

A: Although some have argued that it should be legal because it could be considered strictly a “grip enhancing tool”, we feel that it will NOT be allowed in competition. It’s simply too soon to say for sure as this is a brand new invention/product. However, because it doesn't serve as a safety device (like it does for baseball and softball), we do not believe it would be allowed in competitive golf. Only time will tell.
